New version of the HDM-DCP

Le 21 décembre 2020 Publications

Since 1998, the year of its last publication, the HDM-DCP tool has quickly become indispensable and a scientific reference for analyzing and understanding the complex reality of people with disabilities and how environmental factors hinder or facilitate social participation and exercise of human rights. Now, everyone can talk and understand each other ... a little more than 20 years later, it seemed useful and relevant to thoroughly review the different components of the Classification, certain elements of which had "moved", a sign of evolution at various levels.

Already, the conceptual diagram had been seriously enriched by the in-depth work of its main author, Patrick FOUGEYROLLAS, who published in 2010 his book “La funambule, le fil et la toile. Transformations réciproques du sens du handicap”(PUL), through which he revisited in detail all the concepts of the conceptual model and proposed its reorganization. In doing so, this major scientific and anthropological advance widened a gap with the original model as it had been known since 1998. On the other hand, the rapid technological development in recent years made it necessary to review the wording of certain variables to integrate new elements such as the electronic tablet or smartphone, for example.
Entirely coherent with the social model of Disability of the UN Convention on Rights of People with Disabilities (CRDP), the International Classification HDM-DCP will support all stakeholders working for cultural changes towards independent living and more inclusive societies.
